One part of Rocha Pitta's interdisciplinary practice involves extracting still images from his work in video. In one such example, "The clopen door" depicts a burning fire consuming a door, propped up surreally within a natural setting. "Clopen" is a topological concept that Rocha Pitta researched and felt aptly demonstrated his idea of representing something simultaneously opened and closed. The video that the still image is derived from is currently on view in the artist's solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ironically, the exhibition is clopen – the video work is made visible only through the lobby windows of the museum, as it must remain closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
